Pizzeria Balognett in Tremezzo, Italia

After traveling 3.5 hours from Zug, Switzerland to Tremezzo, Italy through the Alps, we were starving. While waiting for our apartment to be ready, we asked the desk clerk at our host hotel, Hotel La Perla, what he recommended for sights and food. You see, when we travel we never plan our trips. We go with the flow and talk to the locals to see what they recommend off the tourist path.

Pizzeria Balgonett was a gem of a find and earned its rightful place in the top 10 things to do and see in the Lake Como area. We fell in love with the cuisine and quaint atmosphere immediately. Carmelo and Franca own this little pizzeria set back in the hills off Lake Como in Balogno – Tremezzo. It was a short walk from our apartment. What started out as a dinner on Saturday night turned into dinner each of our 4 nights in Italy. We tried all kinds of new food and enjoyed the company of the owners. We did try other ristorantes for lunch, but nothing compared.

On our last night (Tuesday), we arrived at Balognett later than normal due to a hike up to a church high above Tremezzo. Franca mentioned, as soon as we walked in the door, that she wondered if we were still coming. Our goodbye that night near the warm oven lasted over an hour, with great conversation and a little chilled Limoncello as a special treat offered by Carmelo.

Pizzeria Balognett is a must-dine when you visit Italy. Note that the Lake Como area closes down from the end of October until March.

Buon Appetito!!
