Villa del Balbianello

In the 1700’s Cardinal Durini acquired the Punta di Lavedo, a romantic peninsula on the shoreline of Lake Como. He did this in order to build a quiet summer residence where he could indulge in literary pastimes according to the informational brochure they handed out at the entrance. A little side note for all those Star Wars fans, in Episode II the Villa del Balbianello was featured at the end of the movie as Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala were married.

@ Marie, Villa del Balbianello is on the north end of Lake Como about 5 minute drive from where we stayed. There is a walking path or a boat you can take to get to it. We took the walking path. Lake Como is in the northern part of Italy just over the mountain pass of the Alps. It takes about 3.5 hours to drive there. Probably less if you are a confident mountain pass driver. I took some passes a little slower then the speed posted.

BUT wait…. there are more posts on Italia to come…. so check back soon. Lake Como is beautiful and the people are so very friendly.
