Thanksgiving 2011

As they did last year, our friends, the Giles, hosted a Thanksgiving celebration in their home in Hünenberg. Only their faith and warmth exceeds their generosity! With over 40 people, their house was full of opportunities to share reasons for thankfulness, laughter and to catch up with one another.

Before the meal, Katherine Fedor introduced us to a new way of sharing thoughts of thanks. She passed around a bowl of chestnuts, instructing each of us to take one. Once we all had one, we were to mention one thing we were thankful for, then drop the chestnut into the common bowl. Everyone took their turn, contributing seriousness, seasoned to taste with a little humor. It was a great way to break the ice and prepare us for the feast to come!

We pray that our family and friends, wherever you are, enjoyed a time of thanks for the blessings God provides to us every day. Most importantly, His gift of salvation. I’m reminded of the Bible verse, which says:

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Matthew 6:26
