Kirche Poles and Bejeweled Cows

Katherine or Joel, perhaps you can help me write this blog post. I think I’m seeing Maypoles in April. Then again, these don’t look like the Maypoles I’ve seen elsewhere. Does this relate to a Swiss church holiday?

Definitely an interesting site as I walked down the Zugerberg this morning. Loved it.

The cows in the jewelry store window are quaint, but I couldn’t quite figure out the poles that are in front of St. Michael’s and St. Oswald’s.

(UPDATE) Our friend, Joel, tells us these poles are a part of the Easter celebration/remembrance, exclusive to Roman Catholic churches here.

    Sorry, I don’t know what these are…

Curious. We noticed them about this same time last year, too. I wonder if it is some sort of local Catholic tradition.
