London, England with Katelyn and Sharon – Day 1

Today, we caught an Easy Jet flight to Gatwick airport in London, England. Upon arrival, we had to figure out how to get from the airport to our hotel via trains and the “Tube” or Underground. We arrived at Paddington Station (near our hotel) to find tons of road construction and barracades, but our hotel was just a couple blocks away – but which way was the question? So, Katelyn pulled out the map and plotted our route. Within a few short minutes, we were at the doorstep of our hotel, Abbeycourt Westpoint Hotel. After checking in, we decided to drop our bags and venture out to see this English speaking city. Ahh….. ENGLISH is spoken everywhere. To our surprise, it wasn’t the thick British accents we were accustom to hearing around the International School. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the traditional saying of “mind the gap” on the Tube. In other words, watch your step between the train and platform.

First, stop… the red phone booths, of course. We soon found ourselves in front of the Parliament, Big Ben, West Minister Abbey, The Eye, Rainbow Park and the London Bridge to just mention a few. Did I mention, we did this all on foot?? We just kept walking on the Jubilee Walkway along the Thames River stopping off to see some classic sights. We did take the Tube back from the Monument to Paddington Station as we were pretty tired.
